Best Free Things To Do in Dubai At Night

Dubai may be known for its luxury and glamour, and it often comes with the perception of high price tags. However, the city offers a wealth of experiences that don’t require you to reach into your pocket. As the sun sets, Dubai transforms into a dazzling playground, with its iconic skyline illuminated and countless adventures waiting to be explored under the stars. From cultural gems to serene nighttime strolls, here’s our ultimate guide to enjoying Dubai for free after dark.

Watch the Dubai Mall Fountains

It won’t come as a surprise to you that the Dubai Mall Fountain Show makes this list! If you haven’t seen these fountains before, they’re a must-see in Dubai, especially after the sun goes down. The lights shining through the dancing water is such a spectacle, and we could honestly sit here for hours watching the different shows. They are completely free, of course, but for an even better view, we also suggest heading to one of the restaurants with a terrace overlooking the fountains to catch a couple of shows. We usually just order a coffee or soft drink and enjoy the spectacular view of the water from above – it’s the perfect way to spend the evening!

The Dubai Fountain Show timings are from 6pm to 11pm every evening, with a show every 30 minutes set to different music.

Explore JBR

If you haven’t explored the JBR area yet, it’s somewhere you need to check out (both in daylight and after dark). At night, the lights enhance this whole area, and whilst there are many restaurants and cafes that you can go to, it’s so much fun to just walk around and take in the atmosphere. You can choose to do the JBR Walk or also walk along the beach, taking in the city lights all around you. From the beach, you’ll have a great view over to Bluewaters Island and of the Ain Dubai wheel.

Walk along the Marina Promenade

Not too far from JBR is the Marina, with its winding path along the waterfront. This area is full of hustle and bustle in the evenings, and seeing the lights reflecting off the water is so beautiful. Again, there are hundreds of restaurants to choose from if you fancy getting some dinner, but we will often just walk the whole length of the marina promenade, head over one of the many bridges to the other side, and walk the whole way back. There’s nothing quite like getting your daily steps in with these incredible views!

Tip: there are two sides to the Marina Promenade. The side closest to the beach is usually much quieter if you want a relaxing stroll. Sometimes, the other side can get busy with restaurant staff asking you to come for dinner!

Take an evening swim

Can’t get enough of the beach? Well, the good news is that you can now head to Umm Suqeim Beach (next to Kite Beach) for a spot of night-time swimming! This beach is perfectly equipped for a dip in the dark, with floodlights illuminating the sea and lifeguards on duty to make sure everyone stays safe. It’s such a refreshing way to end your day, completely for free!

Wander around Madinat Jumeirah

We’ve spoken about our love for Souk Madinat many times on the blog, so we would be remiss not to mention it in our list of free things to do at night in Dubai! Entry to the area is completely free, although we can’t promise you won’t want to buy a souvenir as you wander through the Souk. At night, this place comes alive with lights, so get your camera ready to snap some beautiful shots with the Burj Al Arab as your backdrop.

Admire the Festival City IMAGINE Laser Show

After the sun sets, make your way to Dubai Festival City Mall for the spectacular and immersive laser and fountain show. If you love the fountain show at Dubai Mall, the IMAGINE show takes it to the next level. With ever-changing shows from 7pm to 11pm every day, you’re sure to have a great time watching lights, lasers, water, and even flames illuminate the sky. The show has even won two Guinness World Records awards – that’s how you know it’s a must-visit attraction!

Discover Dubai Creek Harbour

We have mentioned the Marina area of Dubai a lot, but how about taking a walk where you can see so much more of the Dubai skyline from one viewpoint? Dubai Creek Harbour offers just that. Here, you can find a wonderful observation deck where you can watch the sun go down over the beautiful Dubai skyline, with art installations and cafes to enjoy as well. This area is truly spectacular and the waterfront views are so calm and peaceful.

Stroll through City Walk

If art is your thing, we would highly recommend an evening stroll through City Walk. This partly indoor – partly outdoor mall has lots of cool graffiti and murals to discover, so make sure to bring your camera (or phone) to snap some photos for the ‘gram’. Again, there is a range of restaurants you can head to if you work up an appetite, and we love the atmosphere here in the evenings.
